Phishing
I received a phone call from what looked like my bank PNC. They said my account had been compromised and they needed to shut down my account immediately. I unfortunately gave them all my personal information, SS#, checking account # and a copy of my license! I do feel incredibly stupid! They was able to take $840.00 and used money gram. I made a police report, a call to the credit bureau, they called to my bank and my social security office.

PNC Bank Scam
The caller stated they were from PNC bank, they were calling to question whether I was trying to send $50 through Zelle to someone in Portland, OR. I immediately told them I was hanging up and calling the fraud dept at PNC, which I did and it was indeed a fraud. The reason I know this is because they hit me earlier in July and I fell for it and they cleaned out my entire checking account, and through a lot of work on the part of some dedicated PNC employees, after months, I was able to recover my stolen money from Zelle. These people are so smooth and kind, they can deceive you if you're not aware of their scam.

PNC Bank - Zelle Spoof
At 12:02 p.m. on 07/08/2022, I received a call from “PNC Bank" (888) 762-2265. A man stated that he is with PNC Bank fraud prevention, and there was unusual activity on my account through Zelle for a charge of $1,000.00 made out to Crystal Thomas coming out of Houston, Texas and asked if I made that charge, I said no. He spoke quickly, succinctly and urgently, he sounded like other professionals I had spoken with at PNC. I’ve gotten several calls in the past from PNC whenever there was fraudulent activity, so I thought this was legitimate call. About a month ago, I had to dispute 2 fraudulent ***** **** charges, so I thought this was related. He knew my phone number, he verified my full name, he also verified my home address, and he knew that I banked with PNC, and the phone number on my phone said “PNC Bank.” PNC Bank is saved in my phone contacts, so I thought this was a legit call. He said in order to stop the charge before it went thru, I would have to access my PNC “Zelle” app to reverse the unauthorized transaction. He gave me a code ********** and he told me to enter my name and type “reversal” on the Zelle entry. I said this sounded suspicious and I would like him to give me any other identifying info he had on me, like what is my date of birth, account number, etc. I asked him to send a link to my phone number. He pressed me and reassured this is a legitimate call, and he does not have access to that info right now and he’s with fraud prevention trying to stop a transaction. I asked to speak with his supervisor, and asked for his supervisor’s name, he said Larry Turner, LOD, I said what is an LOD, he said Leader On Deck. I said ok well since this came through a legit PNC number I guess this is not a scam, but I don’t feel comfortable and I’d like him to stay on the line while I called PNC, he was persistent and professional and insisted he was with PNC and made it seem like time was of the essence to cancel the $1,000.00 charge from Houston, Texas. I said I don’t feel comfortable, he kept saying he understood and no problem, normally scammers hang up by now, so I thought ok, maybe this is legit, and I don’t want to get charged $1,000.00. I ended up entering the code like he said, and I entered my name like he said. He said he was waiting for it to go thru and there was an error on his end, and he made me repeat the number. I repeated it, then he said there’s another charge that came thru for $5,000.00. This was similar to the incident that happened with the 2 **** charges that came through last month, so I said, where did the $5,000.00 get charged? My checking account, credit card? He said checking and he was able to stop the $5,000.00 charge, so that is done. He said the $1,000 reversal went thru and I should get a call tomorrow about this fraudulent charge from Texas. The $1,000.00 transaction went to “Michelle Quilez” so I asked who that was, and he said it was an LOD who approves of the charge reversal. He said I would get a follow up call tomorrow about the fraudulent $1,000.00 charge. I asked if they would be able to trace who charged me because this is Identy Theft and I may need to file a police report. He said they will find out that they will call me tomorrow with more information. I called PNC minutes after I got off of the phone with the scammer and asked if I was scammed. PNC said it sounds like I was. I filed a dispute with my bank immediately after the call with the scammer; a Consumer Financial Protection Bureau complaint; a Federal Trade Commission report; and a Police Report. I should be protected under "Regulation E" as this was a misguided transaction, unintentionally sent to the wrong recipient, therefore classifying this as an EFT error. I want to know if there was a breach with PNC Bank, how this scammer knew my phone no., name, address, and that I banked with PNC. This should come out in discovery, in the Zelle class action lawsuit Dele Hope v. Early Warning Services LLC Case No. 2:22-cv-04639 U.S. District Court for the Central District of California Also, Verizon allowed this spoofed PNC Bank phone number to go through.
