Employment Scam
Answered a Facebook advertisement for a secret shopper job. Received a Priority Mail envelope in the mail from Regenia Winkle 4669 Hwy 82A TAHLEQUAH OK 74464-6542 in it were a Cashier's check for $4,950.00 and some instructions and a survey form. The instructions basically had me depositing the check in my bank and taking out $4000.00. I was to keep the $950.00. Then I was to go to Walmart and purchase 4 - $1000.00 money orders and FedEx them overnight to a Jerry Smith at an address provided to me when I text the number provided in the letter namely (973) 348-9613. Which resolves to a Better Business Bureau page with contact information for http://www.blinkresearch.com at 701 Commerce Street Dallas Texas 75202. When I visit the website for blinkresearch.com It takes me to a page that says OUR WEBSITE IS COMING SOON with contact information that says Meanwhile feel free to contact Blink Research LLC at 202-701-0069 or [email protected]. Fake Check/Money Order
A few months ago, I signed up for a store evaluation program via link sent to me by my father, who informed me that it was from a valid accredited research company that we have been with for many years (he was mistaken). A few months after signing up, I received a text message informing me that I have been accepted as a shopper and they will be sending me an assignment in the mail, and they are identifying as a business called "Focus Data Analytics." I am first suspicious that they are identifying under a name other than the valid research company we're familiar with, secondly suspicious that I did not receive a phone call as is custom from this agency, and thirdly suspicious because I can find no trace of this business' activity online nor on BBB, and the only URL available for this business leads to a 404. I have attempted to go through my internet history looking for the link I used to sign up and cannot find it, which makes me wonder if they deliberately deleted the signup page to avoid being traced. I was then sent my first assignment in an unbranded priority mail envelope, and the return address was - wow - an apartment in Houston, Texas. I received a check for $4000, (which I will NOT be cashing because the trick of the scam is that the check will bounce) and my assignment was not to assess products or customer service, as the initial signup said, but to send them 4 $1000 Wal-Mart money orders. The letter with my assignment was in mangled English and printed lopsided on the sheet, and the company identified itself by a new name: Fortress Insight. After a little more research, I discovered other internet forums who had also been nearly scammed by a Chris Allen with Fortress Insight, and I'd heard all I needed to hear. Chris Allen has since been blocked on my phone, and I will be holding onto his nice check in case I get a chance to submit this as fraud.

The letter was sent in a Priority Mail 2-Day envelope. The assignment asked was to buy gift cards at an Apple store. The letter contained typos along with a check in my name with a total amount of $2998.00. The check was from Citizens Bank and had a different address on it then the mailing address: Elmwood Design Inc. 18 East 17th St 4th Fl New York, NY 10003.
