Job scam
I received a text from Katherine +1 (945) 290-8638 to set up an online interview for Unipart Logistics Group. I had applied on indeed and did my research to prepare for the interview and eve thing seemed legit. Unipart is based out of England and there are a few locations in the states, one being in the town over from where I live. The interview was held via Zoom chat, which should’ve been my first red flag but I just assumed that’s how this company operated. We went back and forth for about 45 minutes; they had a basic social questionnaire which seemed normal and they also asked typical interview questions so my scam detector wasn’t going off. They offered me a position as a data entry clerk for $20/hr to train and then it would be $35/hr full time - this should’ve been my second red flag because no one pays that for data entry but I was excited. They then sent me an offer letter and i9 to fill out, I did. Next they’re telling me they need to access my Verizon account so they can order the equipment that I’ll need (they will reimburse me with a check). THIRD RED FLAG but I gave it to them thinking I’ll just change my password when they’re finished. Now, they’re asking me for my Apple ID login and password and that’s when it him me that I was being scammed. I immediately confronted this person who was completely denying being a scam. Claimed he is a god fearing man with a family of his own so he would never do that. I panicked and searched online for potential scam with this company and found there have been several incidents. I called the REAL Unipart Logistics HR, Veronica, and she informed me that yes, unfortunately I was being scammed and there has been an influx the last 3 weeks. She also told me that their parent company in England is aware of the issue but have yet to do anything about it. After speaking with Veronica I went back to zoom chat to inform the scammer I was aware of what they were doing. He kept insisting he wasn’t a scammer and when I ended the conversation someone began to text me. This person was obviously impersonating an FBI agent, sending a photo of a badge, saying they needed information from me. I reported the number as spam. Another number called and texted me, I reported it as spam. These people were relentless after they knew I figured them out. “Names” I got throughout the process were Katherine, Carlos, Bill Raymond. When I actually spoke to someone via zoom call I could barely understand their English, they had a heavy Asian or African accent, I couldn’t tell because he kept changing how he was speaking.
