While searching for cavapoo puppies in CT, I came across this (rather believable) website – Great Cavapoo Family. They had photos of a variety of cavapoo puppies, and the cost of each puppy was $690, plus $25 for paperwork. This is a very good price for a cavapoo puppy and was part of the enticement. I started an email conversation with the supposed business owner. In one of their emails, they asked me to respond to a series of questions which I did (no personal or financial information was shared). They wanted to know my experience with this particular breed of dogs, and past experience in owning a dog. I then asked to set up an appointment to view the puppies, when they insisted that I forward them a $350 deposit, via Zelle, which they said was "fully refundable" if we didn't select a puppy. I asked them for an address, but they wouldn't send it to me until I sent them the deposit. I told him we were willing to come visit the puppies with cash in hand to purchase one of them, but again they said, "you need to send us the $350 deposit to secure an appointment. It's the only way we do business." This was obviously a very "unaccommodating" response. These were the first "red flags" for me suggesting this was a fraudulent situation. I then requested a phone call with them, and after talking for a while they again began insisting on the $350 deposit. Then, I asked them to send me a video of the puppies. But when I viewed the video, it was obvious that the puppies in the video didn't match the ones they had on their website. The mismatch video and photos confirmed for me that this was a scam situation. And, when I called them out on this, they became very angry (another "red flag"). I never paid them any money, so I didn't lose anything. But I was close to sending them the deposit because my family had become very excited about one of the puppies they had on the website.
