Phishing
Man saying he worked for Ventura county court called and told me I had 2 warrants out for my arrest for misdemeanors for failing to appear in court and contempt of court as an expert witness in a trial I knew nothing about and told me they couldn’t tell me any other details because of hipaa laws. I’m a doctor so this made sense. I was told to choose a civil or criminal way to address the misdemeanors and that if I did the civil route, I could come sign an electronic key pad to prove I didn’t sign for a subpoena given to me on a date I was out of the country. The caller demanded I say for a recorded line that I didn’t receive the subpoena and what I chose (come turn myself into jail and bail out or do the civil route and give my electronic signature.) He got aggressive when I asked him to explain my options again and said “I have too many other people to call (probably to scam) to answer your questions.” I said I wouldn’t consent to anything I didn’t understand. He then said “just come turn yourself in” and hung up. I called the courthouse, criminal clerk, and even district attorney office for Ventura county court and everything he said was completely false. Super aggressive and kinda scary and I think trying to rush me to make a decision and/or give $$$.
