Fake Check Scam
My daughter, age 23, a full-time college student, received a Priority Mail envelope at her campus address with an instruction sheet and a check for $2,450.00. Everything about it was unfamiliar, so after a little research I realized that it was the classic "Mystery Shopper (or Secret Shopper) Scam". General info about the scam can be found on the BBB site at https://www.bbb.org/article/news-releases/19227-secret-shopper-sounds-cool-until-its-a-scam. We did not deposit the check or do anything other than reporting the scam. Also, in addition to naming Charles Benson in the letter, the return address on the envelope lists Kelsey Gilmore Williams as the sender. The return address on the envelope is 1108 Patrick Ct., Midwest City, OK 73130, but the company's website gives the address of 9711 Holland St. Bakersfield CA 93312.

Govt Grant Scam
Received second phone call explaining I was issued a Government Grant for thousands of dollars. They did give the amount but I did not write it down. First time they called-they hung up on me when I asked questions. This time they gave me a phone number for verification 661-306-4069. They insisted this was a U.S. Grant in Washington D.C.from the Dept of the Government. Call appeared to be from Lake Hughes CA Thank you for your anticipated cooperation in this matter.
