Employment scam
This is how the “interview” went. I was originally texted on my cell then sent a link and number to use while on Telegram (an application to communicate through and do the interview through rather than a virtual FaceTime or phone call) this kinda seemed odd to me. But the company name looked familiar, and I had been applying to a lot of remote jobs through the job board website Indeed.com. Below is what the hiring manager sent me through Telegram. This hiring manager claimed to be a Stephanie Thompson… “Before we proceed I would love to know more about you, as that would help us decide where to categorize you and how best to interview you. I am Stephanie Thompson, Hiring Manager, MTM Healthcare Solutions. and I will be briefing you about the open position before the interview. Please introduce yourself, indicating your full names and location. The name of the company is MTM Healthcare Solutions. Kindly follow the briefing; and you will be allowed to ask any necessary questions afterwards. Your quick response would be highly appreciated in these beneficial positions. Let me know when you have finished reading every paragraph by simply responding 'DONE'. Okay? Do you have any questions for now? **This is were I started thinking it was a little odd and almost to good to be true.; The accounting department has processed an e- check/pdf as a result of cases of missing mailed checks from the whole present situation. We will not be mailing the check but sending it to your email having been tested overtime and trusted. An e-check/pdf is a paper check sent in through the company's official email where you will have to print out and deposit instantly.... and I will be here to guide you to enable you to do the right thing. Noted? The company check is equivalent to cash and as such must be treated with care, let me know once you have it printed out for more information and instructions. Is that clear? Cut out the check from the paper. Fold backwards at the center line until you get a front and back check orientation. Endeavor to trim the edges to the desired check borders. Let me know once that is done for the next instruction. Endorse the check back page by signing on the first line, where it says endorse here. write for mobile deposit to ''____'' on the other two line lines below your signature at the back page of the check. Kindly let me know once that is done for the next instructions 1. Log in to your bank app using your online ID and password. 2. From the home menu, select 'deposits' and choose a deposit account. 3. Enter a check deposit amount and select how soon you want to access your funds (instant) fee on us! or (next business day). 4. The app will prompt you to take a picture of the front and back of your check. 5. Review details and select confirm deposit. 6. After you submit your request, be sure not to deposit the check again. A check is only good for one deposit / payment. 7.Attach herewith a screenshot or receipt of the deposit confirmation / deposit email for proper documentation. Is that clear? Make sure you are not late online tomorrow morning. Have a great day.” It seemed odd and I did some digging on the company and say is was an inactive company in Florida.. and that really scared me. I then asked to get proof that this was a legitimate offer or to get a phone # to speak to a actual human and the response to that was ; “ This is a legitimate offer. The company will never indulge in any illegal activity of any sort. Will the company scam you off our own resources. At this point you can decline if you feel uneasy about this position. I understand have been working with the company for the past 3 years now. We let our insurance company handle our payments to cover risk. I get paid off same way. You don't need to worry about anything. If the company can trust you i don't see why you can't do the same. “ and the person never gave me a number to call anyone or sent proof of anything. So I’ve called my bank and made them aware of the check I was sent and let them know I believe it was fraudulent and I was a mistake. Hopefully all will be fixed and declined by the bank. I am beyond frustrated and feel very stupid to have wasted my time on this. Please be careful out there. Hope this helps someone else.
