Work At Home Scam
I had recently put my resume on some websites to look for a remote data entry job. I received a text message 1/21/23 from someone named Allison Walter stating she is the head of hiring recruiters dept at Enpro Industries Company. She asked me to get on the app called Signal to have an interview through text in there. She said they were going to send me a check to buy some computer software on a website they work with regularly. The only info I gave them of my personal was the name of my bank-i gave them zero info about my act there, and my home address, phone number. She said they would be emailing me with paperwork that needs to be filled out for taxes and such(I have no received an email yet), and I would need to log back in to the Signal app on Monday morning to start work.

I initially received a text message from a Melissa Vultiaggio (see below). “Good day GIA M. REYNOLDS, This is Melissa Vultaggio from Kymera Therapeutics, your Linked In resume posted online was reviewed online by our Talent Acquisition Team and you have been selected to undergo an interview for a position in ongoing recruiting program. Kindly respond with a "Yes" if you are still open and interested in our offer. Thanks.” I replied yes I was still interested as I thought it was one of the many companies that I had applied for during the week. Then I got this message. “Our headquarters is located at 200 Arsenal Yards Blvd., Suite 230 Watertown, MA 02472 USA. We currently have ongoing building projects for our new branch offices in your area that will be completed in less than two months from so kindly note that this is strictly a remote position till the new offices are been completed. I believe you have no problem working from home ?” I said no as I was looking for a remote job. “The positions available are: Data Entry, Business Analyst, Health Consultant, I.T, Accounting Clerk, Bookkeeper, Accounting Executive, Marketing, Executive Healthcare Administration Assistant, Software Developer, Customer Service Rep, Retail Sales and Sales Executive, Product Manager, Computer, Electrical and Mechanical Engineering, Project and Construction Manager. Which of the above listed positions would be most suitable for you ?” I told them I was interested in the administrative assistant position and I was told that they wanted to interview me for the data entry position. This was the first red flag I missed because they asked me what I wanted to interview for and then told me what they were going to interview me for. Then they asked “Are you familiar with Zoom ? Do you have the Zoom App installed on your PC or Mobile phone to enable you to get connected with the hiring manager Mrs. Laurie Murphy so as to proceed further with your online job interview ?” I provided them with my Skype link to do the interview thinking that it was going to be a video call, it wasn’t it was only text messaging which was the second red flag that I ignored. I get on the Skype call with this “Laurie Murphy” person to do the interview. They said I was a perfect candidate and that they were going to send me a laptop and a check to install the software through the companies that they use. Another red flag which I questioned because a multi million dollar company should have its own IT department. “Now to enable you sit for this job position, there are working equipments and software programs that will be required during your one week orientation program to enable you handle your duties with effect working remotely. It's compulsory that you to make use of the company selected tools only in order to match with the required versions and updates. Apple mac pro 2019 BwE& HP laser Jet printer. Scanner. Photocopier. Fax machine. G1 time tracker. Telephone. Four drawer cabinet and office desk. Verizon or Sprint postpaid account. Microsoft Publisher Microsoft Word 2019 Microsoft Excel 2019 Microsoft PowerPoint 2019 Microsoft Outlook 2019 Microsoft Access 2019 Myob business essentials software 2019, Peach Tree premium 2019 US Patent Single Users Pack, simply accounting 2019. Adobe Photoshop 2019 Are you familiar with these software programs ?” I told her that I was familiar with some of the programs and was then told this. “Your supervisor will be introduced to you and she will provide you with instructions on how to use the softwares and all other equipments. The funds will be provided for you and you are required to place orders for the software programs you will be needing to get started directly from the certified software merchants our employees ( Past and present) have been dealing with for many years now because we do not specialize in such softwares. She will have them installed and prepare your complete package for shipment to your home address overnight via either USPS or FedEx.” “ The software vendor will be responsible for installing the required software programs into the new apple laptop and any other updates or patches, they will also need to perform manual data during the installation. NOTE: All expenses will be handled by our company so the accounting department will issue out funds to you in order to make the purchase of the needed working equipments and software programs from different vendors. Okay ? Do you understand ?” At this point I was getting really skeptical because they kept saying OK do you understand, which is not something you normally hear during interviews. Again I question them about the procedure and was told this. “ Kindly note again that our company does not specialize in the required list of softwares so you will to get them from a trusted and certified merchant our employees have been dealing with. Also note that the major reason the funds are coming through you is to initiate a direct business contact with the vendors in case of future supplies and upgrades. The funds will be coming with a legal sign up bonus of $200 courtesy of the company to all newly employed workers. Are you clear Gia ?” I was then told that I would start on the following Monday, but being late Thursday afternoon I knew that there was no way this could happen for me to start a job on Monday. I question them again and was told this. “ Your trainer will be contacting you via your cell line to set up a meeting in person for proper arrangement of the training requirements. We will have the funds for your remote office materials provided either via check or direct deposit and you are to notify me here for further instructions on the next steps once you have receive the credit. NOTE: The handling of the company funds and properties such as the check will serve as the first physical task given to you by our accounting team so therefore you are to adhere strictly to all instructions accordingly in order to have good conduct and results. this will also show how trustworthy and committed you can be serving our company. You have done very well today Gia and I must say we cant wait to have you fully on our team. Do you have any question for now ?” I said no because at this point The red flags were screaming at me. “ That will be all for now and we will continue 8am tomorrow morning for further instructions on the funds for your working equipment. Okay ?” I said ok and never heard from them again. I had tried calling the phone number on Friday morning and also left a message on Linked In but there was no reply. so I’m posting this in hopes that other people will be warned. I am also complaining to Linked In in hopes this fake company that has no phone number listed on their webpage will be shut down, another red flag. I have no idea what little personal information they got from me name, home address, phone number and my Skype link can be used for identity theft or not.
