I was instructed to use my own funds to purchase an unaccredited paper check from a non-financial institution (office depot or staples) to then receive an emailed "soft check" to print onto the paper check for reimbursement and additional payment to obtain office supplies. I was informed a hard check mailed to me or direct deposit would not work as they have experienced issues with these methods. I was never interviewed face to face or over the phone with the only phone call I received being from maryland not washington with almost no information given relayed from a non english fluent individual. When I made them aware my bank had instructed me this was not a trusted or known valid way of receiving payment they informed me we were "in a stalemate then". Upon informing them I felt this was fraud in some way I received "okay" as a response. This company is not to be trusted in any way if you are currently working for them the payments are more than likely not legal and if being approached for employment do not give your banking information or accept the method in which they attempt to pay you. There was no background check, no in-depth interview process outside of an email questionnaire, and no actual contact point above the person who will reach out.

Debt Collections
This afternoon a company left a voice mail on my home phone asking that I call them at 443-961-9680 (the only identifier I have for them so far) about "a note on my BG&E account". When I called the number they requested the "Choice ID" on my BG&E bill for my electricity service. At this point I thought I was dealing with a BG&E rep and I wasn't initially skeptical about this (in retrospect of course they should already have this information), because recently the credit card number that I use for automated monthly BG&E payments was compromised and I thought they may have been calling about a problem with the new card. I didn't have a statement in front of me, so I asked the operator to wait while I logged onto my online account to retrieve it. Once I gave them the number they transferred me to another extension and the agent on that line immediately launched into a sales pitch. When I realized what this was all about I immediately hung up. Next I reported this to BG&E Services, who apparently have received similar complaints from other customers. The service rep I spoke with said that ALL THAT 3RD PARTY ELECTRICITY BROKERS NEED TO INITIATE THE TRANSFER OF SERVICE FROM BG&E TO THEM IS THE "CHOICE ID", I.E. THEY DON'T NEED MY PERMISSION!!! I find this hard to believe, as such a procedural laxness surely encourages the kind of fraud I saw this afternoon. The BG&E service rep urged me to report this to the MD Public Service Commission, which I will certainly do tomorrow. She also said that BG&E will send me a letter when whoever it actually was on the other end of the phone initiates the service transfer. This is clearly illegal and I'm surprised that Annapolis permits this sort of thing.
