Fake Check/Money Order
I was contacted by Norman. He was contacting me about remote full time employment. I had to Skype. I interviewed and take an assessment. Was told it each phase I needed a bank account and checks would be direct deposit. They Skyped me everyday. I was sent an offer letter, job description and W-4 form. I could hold onto forms except offer letter needed to be returned. I was Skypeing with Patrick Simeone in NYC. There were a lot of red flags and when asked that never addressed. I would not divulge my bank information. They said I needed to set up mini office. I needed specific equipment which they would direct deposit funds in my account. I told them I needed a cashiers check. When it came, instructs were to deposit in my account. I went to the bank because the check didn’t look right. The banker confirmed my suspicions and said it was phoney. She said my instincts were on target and they had three other checks but they deposited the check and they used signatures (guessing) to retrieve their check and the depositors were in trouble, out of money and accounts restricted. During COVID-19 and the despair it brings people are taking advantage of the pandemic and desperation of no jobs, no moneys down no food. The Skype contact was for Patrick D. Simeone.
