Empire Moving Group
I reached out to Empire Moving Group to coordinate my move from Rochester, Ny to Cincinnati, OH. In the sales process, I was given a reasonable quote and was told my things would go straight to Cincinnati, given that the drivers can drive 500 miles per day and it was under that limit. Once I agreed to the terms and signed the quote, my move was brokered off to One of One Movers LLC. Their drivers arrived 1 whole day late, then proceeded to try to charge me more than triple my quote price for the move. I was quoted $1,800.00, paid a $900.00 deposit, and was told that 50-70% of the remaining payment would be due upon pickup, and the last portion upon delivery. The driver attempted to charge me $2,300.00 at pick up, then $2,300.00 at delivery. I told him I would not pay that, so he offered to bring it down to $1,300.00 upon pickup, and $1,300.00 upon delivery, as long as I paid him $700.00 under the table. I continued to negotiate, and was able to pay them $1,027.00 upon pick up, and $1,027.00 upon delivery, which is still over $1,000.00 more than I was quoted. The quote was binding, and legally should not have fluctuated more than 10% than what was signed originally. Lastly, I was charged for extra steps because my apartment was far from the elevator. I then was told to venmo the drivers personal account for this charge of $312.00. My things we picked up on 8/29/2020, it is now 9/18/2020 and I do not know when they will arrive. On 9/15, dispatch at Empire said they would deliver my things on Saturday 9/19. It is now the day before and they still cannot get ahold of the carrier to see if this is happening or not. I am assuming it will not given that it is less than 24 hours from now. Empire's quote said the delivery time for less than 500 miles is 0-7 days. One of One Movers contract legally states they have 30 days to deliver, which is quickly approaching. Empire has repeatedly said they are having trouble get ahold of the moving company, One of One, and that is why they cannot coordinate a delivery. I do not see why they would broker my move off to a company like this. Additionally, last week a paypal account attempted to wire $1,000.00 from my debit account. I can only assume it was Empire or One of One that did this, but cannot prove that. They have most of my personal information and I have not had any encounters with any other company's that could have hacked into my accounts at this time. I was forced to close all of my bank accounts and credit cards and reopen new ones to ensure my money and identity are safe.
