Paul Girtin stopped at our house on October 18, 2023. He said his crew were laying gravel on the side of roads that were currently being worked on. He said they worked for Asphalt Department Contractor out of Indianapolis. He even showed me a website they had. He said they had a dump truck and half of gravel left that they could not return. So they looked for homeowners who might need some gravel. He said he would charge us $2.80 a cubic yard for the gravel. They grated our driveway, laid the gravel and rolled it. We assumed it would cost us about $2,000. He originally wanted $13,000 from us but agreed to lower the price to $9,000. We blame ourselves for not getting an exact estimate before we agreed to do this. He gave me a plain receipt and said he would have a more formal contract emailed to me. I did pay the $9,000 but found out later from friends that this was way too much. I called Paul's cell phone number which he answered and asked for the formal contract. He said he would check it out. Never heard anything else. So I called the phone number on the web site. It is not in service. Last week I sent an email to the address on the website and today received notice that it was not deliverable. I just want people to be aware to get a written estimate before the job is started.
